As a means of boosting rural telecommunications in Liberia, The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications and Chair of the Governing Board of the Universal Access Fund (UAF), Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah Sr., has signed an agreement with K-Net, a company believed to be a telecommunication service provider in Ghana.
The contract, according to sources, is an implementation of the Universal Access Fund through the Universal Access Program.
It is reported that the contract was signed on September 16, 2021 with a high-power delegation present, including the Chairman of the Project Implementation Unit (PIU), Israel M. Akinsanya, Project Manager, James Lynch Monbo, and Chair on the House Committee on Posts & Telecommunication, Dr. Isaac Roland, Elijah Glay, Project Coordinator, among others.
The Executive Chairman of K-Net, Richard Hlomador, signed on behalf of the company. The Universal Access Program signed a service contract with K-Net to construct telephone towers in un-served and underserved location in rural Liberia in fulfillment of one of President Weah’s dream to bringing essential services to the people of Liberia.
According to report, K-Net played a significant role in the recent proof of concept designed by the Universal Access Program, designed to bring telecommunication closer to the people of Liberia, irrespective of their location, to make and receive calls, receive mobile money and other remittances.
Currently, the proof of concept project under the Universal Access Fund Program is being carried out in Perlunken, Grand Kru County, and Gbankaborquiota, Gbarpolu County, among others.
Report further gathered that Minister Kruah praised President George. M. Weah for his support and encourage partners to invest in the telecommunications sector of Liberia. He also extended appreciation to the Chairman of the Project Implementation Unit (PIU), Israel M. Akinsanya, Project Manager, James Lynch Monbo, and all others who are working tirelessly for Liberia to have an affordable communication service, especially in rural Liberia.
